In 1867 a picture book entitled Sōka Shochō Ehon Tekagami (i.e., Picture Book of Painting Models of Flowers and Birds) was published by Shinbei Kobayashi. It included the twenty-one pages of flower and (or) bird pictures shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. The anonymous artist drew the shapes of the flowers and birds accurately but their true colors were reduced to shades of gray.
